MAKE OTHERS FEEL IMPORTANT.
A story is told of a worker in a meat distribution company who escaped death narrowly. The woman who used to inspect the meat in the factory’s industrial freezer, was on her final shift round at the sub-zero temperature room when catastrophe struck.
As she entered the frigid zone, the door which is usually closed from outside, accidentally closed, leaving her locked inside in a room filled with frozen meat products and there was no one who witnessed the development.
The woman screamed crying for help in vain. She pounded on the walls of the metal door but the sounds were not heard by the workers as they were heading to their homes for the night and the soundproof room made it even worse.
After hours of struggling, the exhaustion and the cold took toll of her. She finally resigned and wait for her inevitable sad ending.
Surprisingly, the freezers vault door opened suddenly. Who was there? One of the night guards.
Later, when she had gained a bit of composure, the woman asked the guard why he opened the freezer against the expectations of the company.
The response was totally unexpected;
I have been working in this company for the past 35 years, hundreds of workers come in and out every day but you are among the few who greet me in the morning and say goodbye in the evening when leaving. Many treat me as an invisible.
Today as you reported to work you greeted me in a simple manner as always. But the evening hours I curiously waited for that bye see you tomorrow.
By not hearing from you today I felt dejected and I knew something was wrong. That’s why I went around the factory looking for you.
Have you ever been saved or made to feel important by somebody? And how often have we made people we encounter every day feel important?
This is my message, the people around us, family, friends, workmates, schoolmates, acquaintances and strangers deserve our kindness. Let them feel it and let us appreciate the kindness we get back from people.
